Springsteen T-shirts.
On May 14, Bruce Springsteen kicked off a European tour with a show in Manchester, England. Before the first song, “Land of Hope and Dreams,” he gave a short speech, saying, in part: “Tonight, we ask all who believe in democracy …. to rise with us, raise your voices … and let freedom ring!”
Those words, along with a drawing of Springsteen, Stevie Van Zandt, Jake Clemons and a “Spirit of ’76” American flag, have been put on a T-shirt by the Springsteen-oriented website letterstoyou.net, which is selling them and donating the proceeds to The Kristen Ann Carr Fund, which supports research about and treatment of the form of cancer known as sarcoma, and strives to improve the lives of young adult cancer patients and their families.
The artwork is by Frank Caruso, who did the illustrations for Springsteen’s 2014 children’s book “Outlaw Pete.”
According to the website, the shirts are “destined to become especially appropriate for wearing through the coming year, when fans around the world will be celebrating the U.S.A.’s 250th birthday.”
Adding another layer of resonance, Springsteen turned 76 on Sept. 23.
Springsteen former co-manager Barbara Carr and writer Dave Marsh co-founded The Kristen Ann Carr Fund in 1993, in honor of their daughter, who died of sarcoma.
The shirts are available in gray and navy blue. Click HERE to order.
