Jennifer Holliday is best known as the Tony-winning star of the ’80s musical “Dreamgirls,” and has had R&B and dance hits. But she has also recorded several gospel albums, and will perform at the annual Gospelfest concert at the Prudential Center in Newark, May 7 (the Saturday of Mother’s Day Weekend).

Gospelfest, founded in 1983, includes both a late-afternoon competition, beginning at 4 p.m., and an evening concert. Categories for the competition include: Soloists, Youth Choirs, Adult Choirs, Praise Dancers, Steppers, Singing Groups, Gospel Comedians, Gospel Poets and Gospel Rappers.
