You wouldn’t know it by the name, but Hub City Sounds, now in its fourth year, is more than a music festival. The festival, which begins on Saturday and runs through Sept. 26, will present music, dance, theater, poetry and storytelling at various New Brunswick venues. All offerings are free.

Aug. 8, 2-6 p.m.: Festival Kick Off at Boyd Park. With New Brunswick’s District Jazz Band (high school and middle school musicians), spoken word poetry, African drumming and dance and more.
Aug. 15, 3-4:30 p.m.: Children’s rock group Big Jeff & the StarFish Band, at State Theatre.
Aug. 16, 2-4 p.m.: Motion: Next Generation of Dance, at George Street Playhouse. Featuring students from the B.A.M School of Performing Arts, NJ Ballet Arts Center, Middlesex County Vocational and Technical Schools and Washington Rock Dance.
Aug. 22, noon-6 p.m.: Guelaguetza Festival at Boyd Park. Music, dance and other cultural traditions from Oaxaca, Mexico.
Aug. 29, 2-4 p.m.: Motion: Best of CNJ Dance, at George Street Playhouse. Confirmed choreographers: Robert Mark Burke Dance, Claire Porter and Connolly & Co.
Sept. 10, 7-9 p.m.: theVOM Grand Story Slam at Crossroads Theatre.
Sept. 12, noon-6 p.m.: “I Love New Brunswick” at Boyd Park. Featuring the bands Screaming Females, Downtown Boys, Electric Trip, Wild Rice and Glazer.
Sept. 19, 1-6 p.m.: Central Jersey Jazz Festival on Livingston Avenue.
Sept. 19, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.: “Be Unstoppable: Celebrating Healthy Kids in the Arts,” at George Street Playhouse. Interactive day of theater, dance, food and family activities. Performances by George Street Playhouse actors and American Repertory Ballet dancers.
Sept. 20, noon-6 p.m.: Latino Corazon Festival at Alice Jennings Archibald Park. Traditional Latino and Caribbean dances, music and more.
Sept. 26, 2-4 p.m.: Crossroads Theatre Company highlights pieces of its Gospel Choir concert from its upcoming “Holiday Jubilee” at Crossroads Theatre.
Lawn chair or blankets are suggested for the outdoor events.
