Hot Tuna, which has performed frequently in the At the Tabernacle series at the Mt. Tabor Tabernacle in Parsippany, will return there April 5. The show is being billed as a celebration of bassist Jack Casady’s 75th birthday (which will actually happen a little later, on April 13).

Hot Tuna, which performs in both acoustic and electric formats, first came together as a bluesy Jefferson Airplane side project, featuring Casady and singer-guitarist Jorma Kaukonen, in 1969. With the death, this year, of Marty Balin, Casady, Kaukonen and Grace Slick are the only surviving members of the six-piece lineup that was responsible for Jefferson Airplane’s biggest hits, in the ’60s.
The last Hot Tuna studio album was Steady As She Goes, in 2011.
The Tabernacle is one of New Jersey’s most unique concert venues: a wooden, octagonal building with great acoustics, built in 1885 for use in Methodist camp meetings. The At the Tabernacle series celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2016. No other shows are currently scheduled there.
