Richard Thompson and others booked for socially distanced shows at NJPAC

Richard Thompson will perform at NJPAC in Newark, June 26.

As announced last week, NJPAC in Newark will reopen this summer with a series of shows for socially distanced audiences. And singer-songwriter Richard Thompson will be one of the performers, appearing on NJPAC’s Prudential Hall stage on June 26.

On sale information has not been announced yet.

Thompson, who helped create the genre of British folk-rock in the ’60s and early ’70s with the band Fairport Convention, recently published a memoir, “Beeswing: Losing My Way and Finding My Voice, 1967-1975.”

Also announced for Prudential Hall are the Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition, June 6; and Mannheim Steamroller Christmas, Dec. 15. And three comedians are booked for NJPAC’s smaller Victoria Theater: Vic DiBitetto, June 26; Mike Marino, July 10; and Anthony Rodia, July 30-31.

Attendees will be required to show evidence of a negative COVID-19 test within three days of the performance, or a vaccination card showing they received the necessary shot or shots at least 14 days before the show. There will also be touchless temperature checks at the door, and masks will be required. The theater’s air filtration system has been upgraded, and seating will follow the government’s social distancing requirements.
