Matt Doyle will star in “Sinatra the Musical” in Birmingham, England.

“Sinatra the Musical,” based on the legendary singer’s life and featuring 25 songs associated with him, will premiere at Birmingham Rep in England in September and October of this year. It was developed by Frank Sinatra Enterprises — co-founded by his children Tina, Nancy and Frank Jr. in 2007 — in partnership with Universal Music Group.

In a press release, Tina Sinatra called it “the first book musical to take an honest look at my father’s life.”

Matt Doyle — who lives in Jersey City, and won a Tony last year as Best Featured Actor in a Musical for “Company” — will play Sinatra. Kathleen Marshall, a three-time Tony winner as Best Choreographer (“Wonderful Town,” “The Pajama Game,” “Anything Goes”), will serve as both director and choreographer. Joe DiPietro, who won two Tonys for “Memphis” (Best Book of a Musical, Best Original Score) and whose other credits range from “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change” to “The Toxic Avenger,” wrote the book.

According to the press release, the musical begins in 1942, when the former big band singer went solo and created a sensation with a series of shows at the Paramount Theatre in New York. It then follows him through his ’40s triumphs and his personal and professional difficulties of the late ’40s and early ’50s, and ends with his mid-’50s comeback.
