The Smithereens, who previously announced they will perform their 1986 breakthrough album Especially for You in its entirety at shows next year, will also release a two-CD, 47-track edition of it in January, with demos, live tracks and other rarities.
In other Smithereens news:
• The band is planning to release a new studio album next October.
• The band reports that it is planning to play at the main Light of Day concert at the Paramount Theatre in Asbury Park on Jan. 16, though Light of Day officials have not yet released that show’s full lineup.
• Frontman Pat DiNizio will present his “Confessions of a Rock Star” show, with backing by the Grip Weeds, at the George Street Playhouse in New Brunswick, Jan. 8.
• The next full-band area show, not including Light of Day, is at the B.B. King Blues Club and Grill in New York, Jan. 30. As I’m assuming the band will play not play a full set at Light of Day, this will likely be the first opportunity for New Jersey/New York fans to hear Especially for You in its entirety.
Especially for You includes one of the band’s signature songs, “Blood and Roses,” as well as 11 other tracks: “Strangers When We Meet,” “Listen to Me Girl,” “Groovy Tuesday,” “Cigarette,” “I Don’t Want to Lose You,” “Time and Time Again,” “Behind the Wall of Sleep,” “In a Lonely Place,” “Crazy Mixed-Up Kid,” “Hand of Glory” and “Alone at Midnight.”
