Stanhope House reopen

The Stanhope House will begin presenting live music again, outdoors.

With New Jersey allowing restaurants and bars to open with limited outdoor seating starting June 15, the Stanhope House in Stanhope will reopen its Beer Garden next week. It will be open Thursdays through Sundays from noon to midnight, with live musical entertainment.

The music will be provided, the first week, by Rick Barth, June 18; Adam Najemian, June 19; Andrea Nies, June 20; and David Rimelis, June 21.

The Stanhope House will still not be able to present indoor concerts, though, and is asking that patrons who wish to support it do so via a GoFundMe campaign. Visit gofundme.com/f/support-a-legend.

Housed in a building that was built in 1794 (and was a speakeasy during the days of Prohibition), The Stanhope House bills itself as “The Last Great American Roadhouse.” It established itself as a leading regional blues venue in the ’70s and ’80s, presenting shows by the likes of Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Buddy Guy and Dr. John. More recently, it helped launch the career of Robert Randolph & the Family Band, and has had very eclectic bookings, offering metal, punk, hip-hop, jazz, comedy and other forms of entertainment, in addition to blues.

A message on the GoFundMe page reads: “We are looking for the public to help this great institution so we can continue to support artists and provide entertainment for generations to come. Your donations will contribute to offsetting infrastructure costs while we are forced to remain closed.”
