U2 to bring 2018 tour to Prudential Center in Newark

The cover of U2’s “Songs of Experience” album features Bono’s son, Eli Hewson, and The Edge’s daughter, Sian Evans.

U2 announced details today of its upcoming album, Songs of Experience, and its The eXPERIENCE + iNNOCENCE Tour, which will come to the Prudential Center in Newark, June 29. Tickets go on sale Nov. 20 at 10 a.m., with a Citi/Verified Fan pre-sale beginning Nov. 16.

The album, which follows 2014’s Songs of Innocence, will be released on Dec. 1. The titles of both albums refer to the title of William Blake’s 1789 poetry collection, “Songs of Innocence and Experience.”

“You’re the Best Thing About Me” (see video below) is the new album’s lead single.

According to a press release, “The lyrical approach of the album was greatly inspired by Irish poet, novelist and Trinity College, Dublin Professor Emeritus Brendan Kennelly’s advice to Bono to ‘write as if you’re dead,’ resulting in a collection of songs in the form of intimate letters to places and people close to the singer’s heart — family, friends, fans, himself.”

The Prudential Center show is the last of the currently announced U.S. dates. The tour begins May 2 in Tulsa, and also comes to the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, N.Y., June 9; The Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, June 13; and Madison Square Garden, June 25. Shows are spaced so widely apart that added shows at many or most venues seem likely.
