Bruce Springsteen and Jack Antonoff of Bleachers at The Stone Pony Summer Stage in Asbury Park, Aug. 28.

Bruce Springsteen performed Tom Waits’ “Jersey Girl” and the Bleachers song “Chinatown” with Bleachers at the Shadow of the City festival at The Stone Pony Summer Stage in Asbury Park, Aug. 28. You can watch a video of “Jersey Girl,” below. I have also embedded a video that shows just the beginning of “Chinatown”; I will add a full “Chinatown” video when and if it becomes available.

Bleachers starts “Jersey Girl” on its own, with frontman Jack Antonoff singing the first verse and starting the first chorus. Springsteen joins in on the chorus and sings lead on the second and third verses, with he and Antonoff singing the rest of the choruses together.

Antonoff, a New Jersey native, said before performing “Jersey Girl,” “There’s nothin’ like playing at home. … There’s nothin’ like bein’ 16 years old and having to sell a certain amount of tickets so you can play inside the Pony, and it’s just your cousins at the show. All those cousins are still here! There’s nothin’ like playing in the place you wrote the songs from. There’s nothin’ like going through a lot, then being reunited with your people. It means the world, everybody. … It means the world to be supported by you, and my friends and my family.”

“Chinatown” is from Bleachers’ 2021 album Take the Sadness Out of Saturday Night. Springsteen appeared on song, which was first released as a single in 2020. The group’s frontman, Jack Antonoff wrote at the time that “it’s the honor of a lifetime to be joined by him. He is the artist who showed me that the sound of the place I am from has value and that there is a spirit here that needs to be taken all over the world.”

Thanks to Rich Russo and Eileen Chapman for the videos!
