Drake has postponed his Oct. 16 show at the Prudential Center in Newark, but will still perform there Oct. 15.

Suffering from an ankle injury, Drake has postponed the second of his two shows scheduled for the Prudential Center in Newark next week. The Oct. 16 show will take place on a date to be announced, but the Oct. 15 show will go on as planned.

(OCT. 11 UPDATE: The Oct. 15 show has now been canceled as well.)

He has postponed two other concerts, too, in order for him to be able to rest his injury between performances. “I was asked to postpone both Newark shows, but I have yet to perform there and so we compromised at one,” he wrote in an online message to fans.

A message on the Prudential Center’s web site reads: “Please stand by for further information as it becomes available.

Drake — who presented four shows over five nights at Madison Square Garden in August — also postponed dates in Philadelphia and Toronto. He is still scheduled to perform at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, though, Oct. 11-12.

Here is his complete message:

The love that my fans aka my family have shown to me on the Summer Sixteen Tour has been something I won’t ever forget.

We are over 50 shows in and I have done everything to power through my recent ankle injury and leave it all out there on the stage every night. I hate to be told I can’t do something, but under doctor’s orders to allow me time to recuperate I am being forced to postpone the intense three shows in a row in cities which have only ever shown me unconditional support.

Toronto (my hometown) and Philadelphia (a city that was one of the loudest and showed so much love) are two of the intense three in a row show cycle that will be postponed. I was asked to postpone both Newark shows, but I have yet to perform there and so we compromised at one.

I am crushed to even be typing this announcement because I feel like I am letting my fans in these cities down. I only want to give you the best show you deserve, I promise — I will make it up to you. Thanks you for your understanding and I can’t wait to see you all again with new music and a stronger ankle.
