George Street Playhouse announces ‘Curvy Widow’ as season-ending play

The George Street Playhouse in New Brunswick, which had an empty slot at the end of its current, 2016-17 season, has filled that slot with a musical comedy, “Curvy Widow,” which will begin previews on May 2 and run through May 21, with an official opening night on may 5.

Nancy Opel — who is Tony-nominated for her work in “Urinetown,” and previously starred in “The Toxic Avenger” at George Street Playhouse in 2008 — will star in “Curvy Widow.” The musical was written by Bobby Goldman (book) and Drew Brody (music and lyrics) and is described in a press release as a “sassy, frank and witty musical comedy about the exploits of a fifty-something widow whose adventures in the least expected places reveal unexpected truths about life, love, survival and sex.”

Opel’s other Broadway credits include “Beautiful: The Carole King Musical,” “Honeymoon in Vegas,” “Memphis,” “Evita,” “Sunday in the Park With George” and “Fiddler on the Roof.”
