Joe Grushecky will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release of his “American Babylon” album at the Stone Pony, Oct. 24.
“Special guests to be announced,” says the press release announcing a concert by Joe Grushecky and the Houserockers, featuring Eddie Manion, at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park on Oct. 24. So let the speculation begin.
The show is billed as a celebration of the 20th anniversary release of Grushecky’s American Babylon, an album made in collaboration with Bruce Springsteen. The Boss produced it, co-wrote two songs (“Homestead” and “Dark and Bloody Ground”) and sang or played on eight of the 12 tracks. And when the album came out, Springsteen became a temporary Houserocker, joining Grushecky for a mini-tour that began at the Pony.
So, I don’t know, who do you think the special guest might be?
Springsteen is not officially confirmed for Oct. 24. But he has continued to play with Grushecky occasionally over the past 20 years — most recently, at the Wonder Bar in Asbury Park this past weekend. If he’s in New Jersey on Oct. 24, it’s hard to imagine him staying away.
According to the press release, the show will feature “American Babylon in its entirety plus much, much more.”
Advance tickets, priced at $25 (they will be $30 the day of the show), go on sale Saturday at noon via ticketmaster.com and the Stone Pony box office.
