As part of his “Signpost to New Space” program from 3 to 6 p.m. today (Dec. 21) on homegrownradionj.com, DJ Easy Wind will play performances by Pat DiNizio at a benefit for NJArts.net that took place at Crossroads in Garwood on March 13, 2016.

Dec. 23 Update: The songs will also be played on WBAI (99.5 FM) and streamed at wbai.org from 1 to 3 a.m. Dec. 24 (Saturday night).

Songs that the late Smithereens frontman performed at that show included The Beatles’ “Dear Prudence” (as a duet with Rick Winow), The Byrds’ “So You Want to Be a Rock ‘n’ Roll Star” and The Smithereens’ “Blood and Roses” and “Behind the Wall of Sleep” (all with the band The Grip Weeds) and The Beatles’ “From Me to You” and “Revolution” (both as part of the show’s grand finale encores, also featuring The Grip Weeds, Bob Burger of The Weeklings, Richard Barone, Joe D’Urso and Nick Celeste).

In other news related to DiNizio, who died on Dec. 12 at the age of 62, Richard Barone announced on his Facebook page that he will be participating in the DiNizio tribute that will take place at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank on Jan. 13. It has also been announced that the show will be streamed live for fans who can’t be there in person.

A portion of the proceeds from that show will help establish a Pat DiNizio Musical Performance Scholarship at the Basie’s Performing Arts Academy. Donations can also be made at countbasietheatre.org/commemorative-giving. (Select “Pat DiNizio Musical Performance Scholarship” in the dropdown menu.)
