As they have customarily been doing on their recent tours, Bon Jovi has hired local bands to open their April 7 and 8 concerts at the Prudential Center in Newark. The Revel will open on April 7, and Bobby Mahoney and the Seventh Son will do the same.

A press release said the bands were found after “an intense search.”

“The first song I ever sang in front of anyone was (Bon Jovi’s) ‘Wanted Dead or Alive’ in my 5th grade talent show,” said Mahoney in the press release. “We couldn’t be more excited to rock The Rock with our local heroes.”

“As a Jersey band, opening for Bon Jovi on the first night of his hometown performances is elevating,” said Dillon D’Antuono of The Revel. “What an exciting opportunity this is to share the stage with someone who has had such an impact on rock n roll and so many people’s lives.”

Both shows are scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. At press time, April 7 was sold out, but there were still some tickets available for April 8. Visit prucenter.com.

Bon Jovi will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, on April 14. Former members Richie Sambora and Alec John Such are expected to attend, and Howard Stern will give the induction speech.

Six Bon Jovi members will be inducted, by the way: Original members Jon Bon Jovi, Sambora, Such, David Bryan and Tico Torres, and longtime bassist Hugh McDonald.
