Kathleen Turner to star as God in New Brunswick comedy

KATHLEEN TURNER

Veteran film and stage star Kathleen Turner will play the title character in “An Act of God” at the George Street Playhouse in New Brunswick, Nov. 28 through Dec. 23.

“God has a lot to say in this incredibly funny modern comedy, and Ms. Turner has just the right amount of chutzpah to bring us Her words,” said GSP artistic director David Saint in a press release. Saint will direct the production.

Jim Parsons and Sean Hayes have played the role on Broadway.

The play was adapted by David Javerbaum from his book, “The Last Testament: A Memoir by God.” In the play, according to a New York Times review, “God has taken corporeal form … in order to correct mankind’s dire misconceptions about His thinking and His works.”

It’s a three-character play. The actors who will play the other characters — archangels Michael and Gabriel — in New Brunswick have not been announced yet.

Turner, 63, has received one Oscar nomination (for “Peggy Sue Got Married”) and two Tony nominations (for “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” and “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?”).

Tickets, priced at $85 (with a limited $100 “Heavenly Seating” section), are now available at GeorgeStreetPlayhouse.org.

The theater is currently presenting the first play of its 2017-18 season, “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change.”
