Sounds of the City is a popular annual summertime tradition at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark: Free, outdoor Thursday night concerts that always seem to draw large, enthusiastic crowds.
NJPAC has announced the dates and headliners for this year’s series. They range from DJ Felix Hernandez — the series’ traditional opener — to national acts such as the horn-driven R&B group Tower of Power, rappers Talib Kweli Kurtis Blow, and swing revivalist Louis Prima Jr.
Here is the schedule; all shows last from 5 to 9 p.m. in the area in front of NJPAC, known as Theater Square. For information and updates, visit njpac.org.
