The Rock the Bells festival will take place in Newark, Nov. 29.
For the second straight year, The Prudential Center in Newark will host the L.L. Cool J.-founded Rock the Bells hip-hop and R&B festival. The show will take place Nov. 29 (the Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend), with tickets going on sale Aug. 21 at 10 a.m.; visit ticketmaster.com. Pre-sales will begin Aug. 18 at 10 a.m.
L.L. Cool J. will perform along with Lil’ Kim, Method Man & Redman, and the trio SWV. Also, D-Nice will curate a set featuring David Banner, The Lox (Jadakiss, Styles P and Sheek Louch), original Destiny’s Child member LeToya Luckett and others.
The show is subtitled “The Culture. Home for the Holidays.” According to a press release, “This year’s Home for the Holidays celebration will also embrace the spirit of giving, with Rock The Bells Festival creating opportunities to support and celebrate the community throughout the holiday season. Additional details will be announced in the coming weeks.”
L.L. Cool J, whose 1986 single “Rock the Bells” gives the festival its name, said in a press release: “Hip-Hop has shaped the world for more than five decades, and Rock The Bells exists to honor the people who made that history and keep the culture moving upward. There’s something special about seeing artists and fans from different generations come together under one roof. Bringing that energy back to Newark over Thanksgiving weekend feels right. We’re going to celebrate music, show love to the community, and close out Hip-Hop History Month together.”
