The Osceola Brothers will perform at The Pollak Theatre at Monmouth University, June 3.

The Bruce Springsteen Center for American Music has added a free June 3 concert celebrating Indigenous music to its lineup of grand-opening shows. The Center, located on the campus of Monmouth University in West Long Branch, will open to the public on June 7, with concerts already announced for the university’s Pollak Theatre, May 29, and its OceanFirst Bank Center arena, June 4-5.

The June 3 concert, also at The Pollak Theatre, is titled “The Native American Music Experience” and will feature both traditional and contemporary music by Gary Farmer & the Dish and Spoon Band, singer-songwriter Pura Fé, The Osceola Brothers, and The Julia Keefe Indigenous Big Band. Former U.S. Poet Laureate Joy Harjo will also give a poetry reading.

The concert is being presented in partnership with Hard Rock International, which is owned by the Seminole Tribe of Florida and will be supporting the Springsteen Center through financial contributions, memorabilia donations from its huge collection, and more.

“Indigenous music is foundational to the story of American music,” said Robert Santelli, founding executive director of the Springsteen Center, in a press release. “This concert kicks off our relationship with Hard Rock International and reflects our mission to explore the full breadth of American music. Our aim is to ensure that the voices and musical traditions of Indigenous artists are recognized, celebrated and better understood.”

While the concert is free, registration is required; visit springsteencenter.org.
