Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives.

Bill Monroe, Ralph Stanley and Lester Flatt were on the bill of the first Delaware Bluegrass Festival, in 1972. The event was held annually in Bear, Delaware, from ’72 to ’89, but moved to New Jersey — more specifically, the Salem County Fairgrounds in Woodstown — in 1990, changing its name to the Delaware Valley Bluegrass Festival. It has remained there to this day.

This year’s edition of the festival — its 44th! — takes place Sept. 4-6, and features Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives, Sierra Hull, Blue Highway, Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver, Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys, The Gibson Brothers and other bluegrass, country and roots luminaries. Other attractions include a children’s stage, a jamming area, and music and clogging instruction. For information, visit delawarevalleybluegrass.org.
